100 Thieves to take OpTic Gaming’s CDL spot

According to a report by Dexerto, 100 Thieves is reportedly buying a Call of Duty League franchise spot from OpTic Gaming, bringing on CDL team LA Thieves.

CDL Los Angeles Thieves

Though Dexerto didn’t share the source, the news made waves in the esports community. Especially as Call of Duty League free agency is well underway and teams reassess everything. If the LA Thieves roster stays the same as the current OpTic Gaming line up, the team includes Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat, Kenny “Kuavo” Williams, Thomas “TJHaLy” Haly, and Zack “Drazah” Jordan.

Interestingly, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag recently commented about rumors for 100 Thieves entering Call of Duty League. “LA Thieves has a nice ring to it.” Nadeshot said. “But, guys, we’re not really in a position to get back into Call of Duty. It’s really, really expensive, so we’ll see. Maybe down the road, in the future, I don’t know, but I don’t want you guys to get your hopes up.” According to him, LA Thieves entering COD esports was unlikely.

OpTic Gaming to 100 Thieves

This news comes as NRG Esports co-owner Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez reportedly acquired OpTic Gaming in the Call of Duty League. Although fans don’t know the status of this transaction, it looks like H3CZ quickly transferred ownership. This also doesn’t explain what will happen to the current OpTic Gaming roster. Will the team stick together but under the banner of 100 Thieves, or is a new roster in the works?

While none of this is confirmed, esports fans knew that 100 Thieves hoped to find a spot in the CDL franchise. Even if the org refused to buy in last year, the chance now exists for LA Thieves to enter COD esports. Only time will tell if these rumors are true and who joins the LA Thieves CDL roster.
