2020 Overwatch League Grand Finals
The 2020 OWL Grand Finals began with total domination just from Map 1 on Oasis. San Francisco Shock ran over Seoul Dynasty in their fights, especially Round 2, which was a clean win. Some big flanks from Park “Profit” Joon-yeong helped contest Map 2 on King’s Row, but it wasn’t enough and the Shock barely won through. Nam-joo “Striker” Kwon was also responsible for big plays through his consistent damage and finishers on Maps 1 and 2.
At this point, the heat was on for Seoul Dynasty, who needed to pull it together if they want to become the 2020 Overwatch League Champion. However, Seoul surprised everyone when they chose Hanamura for Map 3, a San Francisco favorite. Important hooks from Hong “Gesture” Jae-hee on Striker and Grant “moth” Espe led to huge picks that got them far. A tough Round 1 and 2 ended in Seoul Dynasty’s favor, setting the overall score to 2-1.

Map 4 went to Seoul Dynasty, who finally found their groove, tying the score to 2-2. In particular, it’s thanks to a powerful Nanoboost partnered with Profit’s Genji Nanoblade that cleared the way for a big payload shove. Unfortunately for the Dynasty, Map 5 and Busan went to the Shock, putting San Francisco in a 3-2 lead. This puts the next map at a series point, creating lots of pressure for both teams knowing that the 2020 OWL World Champion will soon be crowned.
The game on Map 6, Hollywood, decided the series. The high ground towards the center of the map proved a crucial defense point to get past. Both teams stepped up, knowing that this was possibly the last game of the series. But after some impressive fights from both sides, San Francisco Shock emerged victorious as the 2020 OWL champion.

Overwatch Champion Crowned
Just yesterday, Grand Finals Weekend neared its end when San Francisco Shock and Seoul Dynasty beat the competition to reach the 2020 Overwatch League finals. The results continued to surprise fans who watched the second day’s matches. Fans quickly changed their minds about the Seoul Dynasty being an ordinary underdog. After seeing Seoul rip through the Philadelphia Fusion in a 3-0 sweep and defeat Asia Pacific team Shanghai Dragons in a 3-2, everyone knew the team is a force to reckon with.

But the dark horse team did not fare well against San Francisco. Even in 2020, the 2019 Overwatch League Champion was simply too strong to beat out. Though Seoul Dynasty got so far, beating Overwatch esports giants isn’t easy.
San Francisco Shock DPS player Striker also received the T-Mobile MVP award. Alongside a reward of $100 thousand, he’s seen as the most valuable player in the Overwatch playoffs.
The 2020 season of Overwatch esports has been tough for all 20 teams. Especially with Overwatch League swapping to online play, teams struggled to adapt, event 2020 champions San Francisco Shock needed time. But dedicated to their craft, the Shock team remained strong and are now the first back to back Overwatch League champions, showing that they’re the best team in the scene.
