After placing sixteenth in Sunday’s Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang voiced his wish to create his own esports team. Because of COVID-19 and the lack of live sports events, a lot of professional athletes are finally considering esports as a viable solution. For example, soccer player Christian Pulisic teamed up with Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf to attend Fortnite Twitch Rivals. Since esports shares many similarities with sports, it’s no wonder a professional sports player like P-E Aubameyang thought about creating his own Rocket League esports team.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Statement
“I play FIFA of course, but this year a lot of Fortnite and I definitely need to play Warzone: Call of Duty,” said Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during a video chat with Lando Norris. “I’m actually thinking about launching an esports team and Rocket League is definitely a game that I’d need to have a team for.”
During the pandemic, gaming became P-E Aubameyang’s main hobby. After all, he finished sixteenth during the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix. The Arsenal striker also says between the lines that he does not like just gaming but more so esports. All titles mentioned are related to esports.
That’s the virtual #MonacoGP done, with a solid showing from both our guys! ??

On his Twitter, he also teased the community saying that “Something is cooking!”. Rocket League and soccer fans can rest assured they will witness the creation of P-E Aubameyang’s esports team.
From Soccer to Esports
Fans are witnessing more and more professional athletes enter the esports world. Some like Dallas Mavericks’ basketball player Luka Doncic are just here to have fun and play with the community. Others like Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale or Arsenal’s midfielder Mezut Ozil are constructing their own teams to compete in the most prestigious esports competitions. It is a wonderful opportunity for esports to gather new fans from the sports world. This relationship was already there but the pandemic brought it to another level.
