DAMWON Gaming crushes Suning to become Worlds 2020 Champions

After a thrilling and super-heated battle at Worlds, the yearlong journey in LPL culminated with excitement as DAMWON Gaming obliterated Suning in a match that ended 3-1 to become the 2020 League of Legends World Champions.

DAMWON Gaming Wins Worlds 2020

In what seemed like an even match, with Chinese team Suning whipping out spectacular displays, DAMWON outclassed Suning in the last game. Game One was the longest, lasting 45 minutes with DAMWON getting a crucial win. Suning responded by producing a ferocious team performance in game two, settling the match score to 1-1.  But DAMWON took control of game two to tip the Worlds 2020 finals in their favor. Using their experience and skills, they then executed a neat win in the last game to become the 2020 League of Legends World Champions.

As expected, the Worlds 2020 finals produced enthralling action as teams from either side sought to become world champions for the first time. In the 2020 event held in Shanghai, Suning grew to become a dark horse through sensational performances.  When Suning was seeded into the same group as G2 Esports, Machi Esports, and Team Liquid, fans did not expect Suning making through the knockout stage.

In fact, Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin made esports history with the first pentakill in Worlds history during Game 2 on Fiora. Unfortunately, that was the only game Suning saw lots of success on.

DAMWON Gaming executed sweet revenge against Europe’s top seed, G2 Esports, in the semifinals, knocking them out of the competition. Meanwhile, Suning continued to shock and upset everyone as they took down Worlds favorites, including Top Esports in the semifinals and JD Gaming in the quarterfinals. However, their spectacular run was ended by the brilliant South Korean side. DAMWON managed to end the LCK’s title drought by winning the 2020 League of Legends World Championship.

League of Legends World Championship Finals

Pundits and fans alike saw DAMWON Gaming as the favorites. The Korean juggernaut is the first LCK team to reach the finals at Worlds since 2017. Before the finals, the team only lost twice. DAMWON has managed to switch playstyles and try unorthodox picks to produce stellar and unpredictable moves. From the start of the tournament to the finish, the team has been dominant and infallible.

At every stage of the finals, everyone thought China’s third seed Suning would lose. But they made it as the 2020 Worlds runner-up. This young team fought against all odds to shove aside big teams. But they could not overcome DAMWON Gaming.

Suning’s Fight

Similar to Suning’s playstyle throughout the tournament, the team played with Lê “SofM” Quang Duy focusing on the map’s top side. Suning’s Bin, who previously relied on his Jungler, SofM, to win, had to brave up against Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon. This game was always to be determined by the effectiveness of the junglers. DAMWON’S jungler, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, was superb and led in nearly all stats. He acquired as much gold as possible to snowball himself to high levels of damage.

Suning’s jungler, SofM, managed to provide his laners with sufficient gold to do damage on his behalf.  Heo “ShowMaker” Su and Xiang “Angel” Tao produced a world-class clash on the mid-lane. Suning tried to brute-force DAMWON in the last two games but it was too much for them and they fell to the LCK.

After a three-year drought where China held the title as the best region, Korea reclaims it in the Worlds 2020 finals. As arguably the greatest esports tournament of the year ends, fans can look forward to the 2020 season of League of Legends esports now that Korea has reshaped the meta.
