The Evolution Championship Series, known as EVO, will be returning to the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort in Las Vegas in 2020. The tournament will run from July 31 to Aug 2.
This will be the third time that the Mandalay Bay will host EVO. The venue has had some of the most memorable moments in the history of the Fighting Game Community (FGC).

Memories like Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli being the only American to be in the top eight in Street Fighter V in 2016, to Goichi “GO1” Kishida crying after beating Dominique “SonicFox” McLean in Dragonball Fighter Z.
Moments such as Leonardo “MK LEO Lopez Perez coming back from 0-2 in the loser’s bracket to take home the EVO2k19 crown in the main event for Smash Ultimate. EVO is the place where esports competitors can make or break their careers.
EVO will always have some of the most epic moments that will have people cheering and gasping during the matches. Tekken also had a first with Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique winning both EVO Japan and EVO2k19 in Vegas.
One of the most important reasons to watch EVO outside of the matches, would be for the downloadable content. Last year, heavy hitter Street Fighter 5, announced new characters for the globally popular game.
Additionally, Guilty Gear 2020, and the King of Fighters 15 were announced, some of the most popular anime fighting games. Respectively being a first for Guilty Gear, and a much anticipated new installment for King of Fighters.
EVO Providing Events for all esport Fans
Last year, Smash Bros Melee was dropped off the main card, causing wide-spread shock throughout the FGC. This was done to make room for Under-Night, Samurai Showdown and its successor Super Smash Ultimate.
With the staples of Tekken 7, and Street Fighter 5, and Smash Ultimate on Sunday, with Dragonball Fighter Z on Saturday there will always be a major tournament to watch on the weekend.
EVO is considered a major leg for most fighting games. Even Tekken having its own “Masters+” and Street Fighter being labeled as a” Super Premier”. This makes EVO one of the oldest and largest fighting game tournaments in competitive gaming history.
This high caliber tournament will attract some of the world’s most esteemed FGC players, from SonicFox to MK Leo, to the return of Lee “Infiltration” Seon-woo after his self-imposed exile.
Hotels reservations for Evolution Championship Series are available now, including registration for the competition itself.
