Today, Riot Games revealed the pre-release single, THE BADDEST, for record-making K-pop group K/DA after teasing a comeback on social media for weeks.
The virtual popstars rocked the League of Legends world in 2018 when they performed at the League of Legends World Championship. Millions watched their one-hit-wonder song, POP/STARS, during the debut. So far, the online video has reached over 365 million views on YouTube. It did so well that it reached the top of iTunes (#1 K-Pop Chart, #2 Pop Chart), Billboard (#1 World Digital), and 170M+ DSP streams in 2018.

K/DA THE BADDEST
After taking a break in 2019, the K/DA comeback is exciting with a hot new single. The newly-released single features SOYEON and MIYEON from (G)-IDLE, Bea Miller, and Wolftyla. Although Madison Beer and Jaira Burns don’t appear this time, K/DA remains strong.
The single talks about what “the baddest” do. In other words, what those who live on the edge and rule from the top do. The EP is the perfect mix of hype pop music, killer rapping, soft mid-way cuts, and beat drops that deliver the entire message.
As always, K/DA stars League of Legends champions Ahri, Akali, Evelynn, and Kai’Sa. With their released single, they boast new attire that takes on a complex and cool look. Each K/DA member wears outfits that take on a smoky-black and crystal-like rainbow hue. Ranging across the cool color scale, K/DA looks sophisticated, yet represent “the baddest”. Despite already having a K/DA skin line, these new additions will likely be priced similarly. They may even hold prestige skins for champions that didn’t receive prestige skins in 2018.
Riot Games Raises the Volume
In a press release, Toa Dunn, Head of Riot Games Music, talked about how excited Riot is to release more music. Especially for the fans’ reactions to THE BADDEST released today.
“Ever since K/DA premiered their explosive track POP/STARS at the 2018 League of Legends World Championships, fans always ask what’s next for the group.” Toa Dunn said. “We can’t wait for everyone to hear the new track today, followed by the EP later in the year, which is packed with tons of surprises for League of Legends and K/DA fans to enjoy.”
With Riot Games introducing music to its esports scene again, fans can only imagine what’s next in the future. Each year, the League of Legends Worlds raises the bar as more smash hits are dropped. Time after time, Riot surpasses expectations with every music video and track release.
Overall, the new K/DA single, THE BADDEST, looks to break records. With the track featuring pop-infused notes, well-written lyrics, excellent graphics and transitions, and a new team of major singers, K/DA is only improving. Although not confirmed, THE BADDEST may even show up as this year’s League of Legends Worlds 2020 song.
