LCS Playoffs Semi Finals Preview

The road to the 2020 LCS Spring Finals is almost set with an Evil Geniuses vs FlyQuest match in the semifinals. Evil Geniuses’ loss to Cloud9 in the LCS Playoffs winner’s bracket meant they face the winner of the FlyQuest versus Team SoloMid game.

FlyQuest started their LCS season with a bang. Even though it was nowhere near C9’s record, they were still the second-best team in the first half of the Spring Split. However, they had to settle for a fourth-place finish after losing a tie-breaker game. Both semifinalists have already met in the LCS Playoffs. EG faced FlyQuest in their opening game of the playoffs with a 3-1 victory. After this loss, FlyQuest defeated Golden Guardians and TSM in the loser’s bracket to reach the semifinals.

After going down 2-0 in the series against EG, FlyQuest subbed in Colin “Solo” Earnest for Omran “V1per” Shoura in the top lane, winning the next game. Although FlyQuest lost the series, they stabilized their top lane issues for the playoffs.

Since the EG game, Solo has played every other game. FlyQuest dominated the series against Golden Guardians with a 3-0 victory and their series against TSM stretched out to Game 5.  Much of TSM’s win came down to the individual brilliance of their mid laner, Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg. However, FlyQuest was destroyed in Game 4, with TSM ending that game in just 24 minutes. Throughout their series with TSM, FlyQuest struggled to come back from behind. They played to their early game strengths but looked lost without a powerful late game. This turn of events is strange for a team with the best mid to late game rating in the regular 2020 Spring Split.

Evil Geniuses

For Evil Geniuses, they normally have a better early game and manage late-game situations. Their series against Cloud9 showcased this fact when they won the third game. EG always holds a win condition when they keep up with their opposition in objectives and have a better late game composition.

EG’s ability to outplay FlyQuest when it comes to team fights gives them a slight advantage in this series. FlyQuest will need to look out for EG’s Daniele”Jiizuke” di Mauro and Bae “Bang” Jun-sik. One of the reasons why Evil Geniuses lost control in their C9 matchup was because of Jiizuke’s limited abilities. The mid laner lacked early kills, items for power spikes and could not make crucial plays.

The FlyQuest versus Evil Geniuses series shapes up for a close game between both teams. Unlike the opening series where FlyQuest had top lane issues, they look more decisive now. But whichever team comes out victorious on April 18 faces another herculean task the next day. A win in the semifinal series gives FlyQuest or Evil Geniuses a chance in the 2020 LCS Finals to stop Cloud9 from taking home their first LCS Championship since 2014.
