mousesports leaves Rocket League Championship Series

In a short few weeks, multiple Rocket League esports teams announced their leave from the Rocket League Championship Series. mousesports’ Rocket League team followed the trend and also left. An open letter from 13 Rocket League teams was sent a month ago but Psyonix’s response led to teams leaving the esports scene. As a result, Cloud9, Veloce Esports, and mousesports are leaving. Teams continuing to leave pressures Psyonix to make changes to Rocket League esports.

There are multiple bad signs for the future of the RLCS. When a majority of teams collaborate on an open letter to the developer, this already indicates a problem. In that letter, teams question RLCS slot ownership and their own financial autonomy. In a nutshell, RLCS teams are in a spot where Psyonix isn’t providing enough and players have the real power. Scheduling issues were also noted in the letter because of teams struggling to secure their financial well-being from events.

Seeing multiple teams leave the RLCS also encourages other teams to take action too. Right now, the Rocket League Championship Series is doing well according to viewership. However, without making an extra effort to satisfy participating teams, Psyonix will face a weak end of the year.

RLCS loses mousesports 

Unlike Cloud9 and Veloce Esports, mousesports did not state why the organization is leaving. For both C9 and Veloce, it was clearly stated that changes need to be made for teams to support themselves financially. Fans will never know if mousesports departure of Rocket League is because of the poor environment or a long-awaited move.

One thing that may stabilize and help Rocket League esports teams is the competitive overhaul. Psyonix will change to a whole new league format to multiple regionals granting points. But the problem is that teams didn’t see the format as the issue. Teams like mousesports believe Psyonix is fixing problems that did not exist and isn’t looking at the real issues. Psyonix needs to listen and communicate with RLCS teams in order to find common ground to start over.
