Longtime League of Legends fans have been on the wait for any news or information or art regarding the visual gameplay updates (VGU) of the champions, FiddleSticks and Volibear.
The two champions have been notorious factors in the jungle, but have been both low priority champions in the vast pool available today. With this VGU, Riot intends to keep the main styles of the champions intact with moving them along in a new and yet familiar direction to keep true to the characters and igniting new interest in the old champions.
Starting with FiddleSticks, gameplay designer, Blake “Squad5” Smith, describes his direction with the update.
“When approaching Fiddlesticks, we wanted to focus on highlighting the identity Fiddle already had—a teamfight-winning ambush mage,” Smith says.
Each champion coming equipped with their own signature gameplay feels with FiddleSticks’s ambush ultimate rampaging on an engage, or Volibear’s unstoppable rampaging claw slashes and lighting fueled bites. Emphasizing these aspects will be key for the champions to feel impactful.
An exciting concept for Volibear’s strength was emphasized by gameplay designer Nathan “Lutzburg” Lutz.
“[…] one of the concepts we’re exploring right now is the idea that Volibear refuses to be stopped by immobilizing effects. Instead, he converts effects like roots and stuns into self-slows,“ Lutz says.
