NYXL Players
Usually a dominant team, the 2020 season wasn’t the best for New York Excelsior. Despite ending in seventh for the 2020 OWL standings, it wasn’t enough and the team cut many players from its roster. Now the squad looks for a restart with four new DPS players.
Of the four new additions, three players join from Overwatch Contenders. This is an important move since it highlights professional OWL teams recruiting more from the tier 2 esports scenes. The three former Contenders players are Lee “FEATH5R” Seung-woo, Lim “Flora” Young-woo, and Kim “Gwangboong” Gwang-won. NYXL also signed Lee “Ivy” Seung-hyun, former Philadelphia Fusion DPS.
New York Excelsior
Arguably the most notable new player from these NYXL DPS additions is Ivy. Philadelphia Fusion came out second in the 2020 OWL standings and was one of four teams to make it to the 2020 Overwatch League playoffs. Though they didn’t make it to the OWL Grand Finals, Philadelphia was one of the hottest teams in Overwatch esports’ Western conference.
Fans should note that Gwangboong can not play until March. He and Flora are still 17 years old and are not allowed to officially participate in Overwatch League until they’re 18. Thankfully, Flora turns 18 this month so NYXL holds most of its roster when the season starts.
Details have yet to be revealed on when the 2020 OWL season starts, but until then New York Excelsior can feel confident in boasting a new roster of young talent. The Overwatch League offseason continues with more teams making big roster moves.
