After being absent since his last appearance in Mortal Kombat 2011, Nightwolf makes his way back to the bloodbath with new powers at his disposal.
Nightwolf originally made his debut in Mortal Kombat 3. He is one of the most recognizable Native American characters, sharing the spotlight with Chief Thunder from Killer Instinct and Thunder Hawk from Street Fighter.
His look is a good modern update while remaining faithful to the character, staying true to his Native American inspirations. And being inspired by said people, Nightwolf brings many different spiritual powers to aid him in battle.
Nightwolf maintains many of his original moveset: his shoulder charge, the ability to reflect projectiles, his lightning call, and his spirit weapons. He also adds deadly tomahawk axes to his arsenal to destroy and dismember his opponents.
Going from context clues and how the character operated in the trailer, it seems his three variations have something to do with the animal spirits he is attuned with.
The wolf seems to increase Nightwolf’s hit stun as Kabal’s hit movements were slower while the wolf spirit is active. The hawk spirit appears during this time, so the hawk may be a universal projectile for every variant.
The bear spirit gives Nightwolf super-armor that he can withstand projectiles while active.
And the last variation is a toss-up, but the lightning arrow seems to be a good indication that will have something to do with it.
Nightwolf will be released soon on August 20th. More characters coming to the Mortal Kombat 11 roster soon like Sindel, Spawn, and two more unannounced characters (likely the Terminator, Ash Williams from Evil Dead or Doom Guy) in the future.
