After the delay of the Six Invitational 2021, 19 teams finally gathered in Paris, France, to participate in the biggest esports event in Rainbow Six Siege but only one winner emerged. Two Brazilian rosters out of these participating teams, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Team Liquid, clashed in the finals. And for the first time in SI history, a Latin American team lifted 2021’s grand hammer.
Six Invitational 2021
After a heartbreaking defeat in the Six Invitational 2020 against Spacestation Gaming, NiP took revenge on SSG and won 7-3 to push through the group stages. Both Team Liquid and NiP made it through the group stages, landing themselves in the upper bracket of the playoff stage. Although Liquid dropped into the lower bracket early on by MIBR, who faced NiP in the upper bracket finals.
Ninjas in Pyjamas rolled through the upper bracket, finishing undefeated. Team Liquid on the other hand had to fight through five other teams to meet NiP in the grand final. Though TL put in a valiant effort, their dreams were crushed with a 2-3 defeat with Ninjas in Pyjamas eventually becoming the Six Invitational 2021 winner.
Ninjas in Pyjamas win Grand Finals
In the Six Invitational 2021 grand finals, Ninjas in Pyjamas started off with a strong win over their opponent. NiP won 7-2 on Kafe Dostoyevsky. In the best of five, however, Team Liquid showed that they were not ready to give up so easily. TL won the next two maps in the series, winning 7-3 and 8-7 respectively. Thanks to the advantage NiP brought in from the group stage win, the match entered a map five.
On Consulate, the ninjas steeled themselves and began the map with a flawless 6-0 defensive half. This sealed an advantage that Team Liquid couldn’t come back from. After only three rounds in their offensive half, Ninjas in Pyjamas won the map 7-2. They go home with $1 million from the massive prize pool.
From hard-fought wins to gut-wrenching defeats, Rainbow Six Siege’s biggest esports competition was an amazing experience. With Ninjas in Pyjamas as the winner of the Six Invitational 2021 grand finals, it is clear that Latin America is the region to watch out for.
