OWL 2021 June Joust
After all 20 Overwatch teams competed throughout the past few weeks, only four get to compete in this month’s event. June’s tournament uses a double-elimination bracket with the four best teams in the league right now. Atlanta Reign faces the New York Excelsior on Thursday, June 10, at 6 PM PST. Following that, the Shanghai Dragons face May Melee champion Dallas Fuel. It all finishes on Saturday, June 12, where the 2021 OWL June Joust winner is crowned during the finals.
The participants in this event are a real surprise. Atlanta Reign turned heads with a massive upset through a 3-0 win against 2020 and 2019 Overwatch League champion San Francisco Shock. This was enough to slot them into the 2021 OWL June Joust and beat out the Shock. A similar story took place in the East with NYXL defeated Hangzhou Spark 3-1 to qualify. Will the two underdogs defeat the current best in the East and West?

Ever since Overwatch League shared the format and details for the June Joust after May Melee ended one month ago, fans couldn’t wait to see who made the cut. Dallas Fuel surprised the community and finally took a major win at a tournament. Mat “TazMo” Taylor, Dallas Fuel’s General Manager, spoke to Esportz Network about how the team truly earned the win.
The $225 thousand prize pool tournament weekend starts in just three days with the last four teams. Regional knockouts saw a variety of surprises and this weekend will show which Overwatch esports team will become the OWL June Joust champion.
