Overwatch’s 32nd character, Echo, is now playable on Blizzard servers. This hero is a DPS character with high damage output and fast mobility options. Her ultimate opens up new team fight possibilities that can change from game to game, depending on the opponent’s lineup.
Who is Echo?
Echo is Overwatch’s latest DPS hero and possibly the final character until Overwatch 2’s release. Her abilities bear resemblance to Pharah, Mercy, and Genji, although her playstyle is unique in Overwatch.
Echo is an evolutionary robot programmed with an adapting artificial intelligence versatile enough to fill multiple battlefield combat roles.
She first appeared in Mccree’s ‘Reunion’ animated short and later in Overwatch 2’s release trailer. With Blizzard intent on releasing Overwatch 2 soon, Echo might be one of the last heroes to be released before Overwatch 2’s launch. With her unique abilities, Echo will dominate pubs and professional matches for the foreseeable future.

This artificial intelligence is a DPS character with unique abilities that allow her to transition in and out of the battlefield. She can also deal massive amounts of damage to her opponents with some of her abilities.
- Primary Fire (Left Click): Tri-Shot – Echo fires 3 shots at once, in a triangle pattern.
- Alternate Fire (Right Click): Sticky Bombs- Echo fires a volley of sticky bombs that detonates after a delay.
- (Shift): Flight- Echo surges forward quickly, then can fly freely.
- Ability 1 (E): Focussing Beam – Channeling a beam for a few seconds, dealing very high damage to targets with less than half health.
- Glide :(Press Jump Mid-Air) – Gliding while falling.
- Ultimate (Q): Duplicate- She duplicates a targeted enemy hero and gains use of their abilities.
Despite the versatility of her base abilities, Echo’s ultimate will make her a fan-favorite. Echo can charge ultimates as duplicates of enemy heroes, but at a faster rate.
How to Use her Ultimate?
Echo’s ultimate allows her to play as a character from the enemy lineup. She can use all of the hero’s abilities, including its ultimate which charges up at a faster rate than normal. The DPS hero opens new opportunities for diverse playstyles and will impact hero choices in Overwatch League games.
Unless Echo dies immediately after using her ultimate, she will be able to quickly charge the duplicated hero’s ultimate. In fact, she can charge and use multiple ultimates during the length of her ‘Duplicate’ ability.
Blizzard Entertainment Vice President, Jeff Kaplan, revealed that this new character can charge Tracer’s ultimate multiple times when she duplicates Tracer. While Echo is a strong hero based on her normal abilities, her ultimate will make every game more interesting and innovative.
Echo can then finish off opponents with her Focus Beam after bringing them to low HP with Sticky bombs and Focussing beam. She can use her flight and glide abilities to quickly move through the battlefield. The Focus Beam deals additional damage to enemies with less than half health and will be useful as a finishing blow in the game.
