Riot Games and Epic Games team up with PlayVS for Summer Showdown 2020

PlayVS recently revealed the Summer Showdown’s sponsors and prizes. Organized by the scholastic esports platform, this tournament attracted many big names in the esports industry. Among the official sponsors are Riot Games, Epic Games, Alienware, Respawn, Logitech, and more.

Summer Showdown is one of the biggest esports tournaments for high schools and collegiate esports, so it’s no wonder these brands decided to collaborate.

Having sponsors like Riot Games and Epic Games is important for Fortnite and League of Legends tournaments. High schoolers can attend the LoL tournament while the Fortnite event will be for college players.

The League of Legends tournament features more than a thousand high schools in eight different regions. As for the Fortnite tournament, over 200 colleges already announced their participation.

Both events can be entered whether or not someone is new to PlayVS. Entering these tournaments is completely free for students too.

Hardware sponsors like Logitech, HyperX, or Alienware are primarily here to enrich the prize pool. The prize list features Alienware’s latest high-end gaming laptops, Logitech’s famous peripherals, HyperX headsets, Respawn’s gaming chairs, and more. Of course, Riot Games and Epic Games, while helping the organization, will also provide some in-game content.

High Ambitions

Respecting social distancing guidelines is one of the most important things to have in mind, according to PlayVS CEO Delane Parnell.

“Social distancing guidelines have made this summer and the upcoming school year challenging for many, but esports gives all students the opportunity to participate in a fun and safe extracurricular activity whether they’re attending school in-person or remote learning at home,” said Delane Parnell.

Teams will have full liberty regarding how they will compete. Both Fortnite and League of Legends are games that can be played on mainstream machines. This environment allows for anyone to participate. The high school League of Legends tournament starts on August 31 and the Fortnite event begins August 22 for collegiate esports. It will be exciting to see how far PlayVS goes with Summer Showdown.
