Rocket League Tournaments revamped and free to play

Today, Rocket League social media announced that the game will be reworking its old Tournaments feature. Previously one of the weaker features for players, now, Rocket League Tournaments will let anyone participate for prizes and a new format.

Rocket League Tournaments Updated

The Tournaments feature lets all players participate in an exciting format of 32 team single-elimination brackets. These events will occur multiple times a day in each region, maximizing accessibility.

The goal of this game mode is to give players the feeling of playing in the pro scene. Imitating Rocket League esports, this competitive spree allows players to play one match each round until reaching semifinals or the finals, both of which are best of three matches.

Players can sign up for Rocket League Tournaments as a team or solo. Upon launch of this feature, revamped Tournaments will support 3v3 play, where solos and duos are sorted appropriately. When it comes to placing players, the system will initially sort players into teams based on their competitive ranks. Thankfully, boosting others will be difficult since a team’s skill is represented by its highest-ranked player. According to Rocket League, “if two Gold II players team up with a Diamond I player, that team will be entered into a Diamond Tournament.”

A new in-game currency called Tournament Credits is introduced in this update. Tournament Credits are earned through winning games and can be redeemed for Cups, which can grant their own cosmetic rewards based on a team’s increased tournament ranks.

In order to keep the mode fair, players who leave early or do not enter their games receive temporary matchmaking and Tournament bans.

Tournaments Release Date

Currently, fans are unsure when revamped Tournaments will launch. Considering that Psyonix stated that Rocket League will become free to play late summer, changes will come alongside that update. Rocket League Tournaments’ release date is likely September 1, coinciding with the start of the competitive season.
