Six August 2020 Major ends unexpectedly

Rainbow Six Siege’s Six August 2020 Major comes to a close with the final European League matches. In this tournament, some of the best teams from around the world competed against each other. The objective was to gather more points in order to qualify for the 2021 Six Invitational.

Every weekend featured a different league until August 23. In every region, all matches followed a best-of-3 format, except the grand finals, which were based on a best-of-5 with infinite overtime. After a month of weekend matches, the results are finally in and do not disappoint.

Six August 2020 Major

Asia-Pacific League

APAC League, going from August 3-9, was the first one scheduled. Fans who expected Japanese teams CYCLOPS and GUTS Gaming to dominate in this 2020 Rainbow Six Major were surprised to see them wiped out. CYCLOPS lost to Cloud9 without winning a single map in the final, even though this team showed promise by defeating GUTS Gaming in the semifinals.

After winning against Xavier Esports, Giants Gaming faced Cloud9 in the grand final. But Cloud9 emerged victorious with a 3-1 score in the end. CYCLOPS secured third place against Xavier. A close match with a score of 8-7 placed GUTS Gaming fourth and FAV Gaming fifth.

Union Gaming emerged as first place for the South Asia Division after beating MercenarieZ, who placed second. MonkaS claimed third place and KIRA E-Sports settled in fourth. Meanwhile, in the Oceania Division, Wildcard Gaming beat the second-place Pittsburgh Knights and third-place Okami.

Latin American League

Latin American League ran from August 7 to August 9 and was won by Ninjas in Pyjamas. After a defeat in the 2020 Six Invitational, NiP worked hard here to chase wins. The Swedish team won against FaZe Clan twice during the weekend, ending the grand final with a 3-0 sweep. Team Liquid took third place, leaving Brasilerao 2020 victor Team oNe in fourth place.

The Mexico Division saw Estral Esports take first place, while Timbers Esports placed second.

North American League

Running from August 14 to August 16, the  North American League in the Six August 2020 Major also saw surprising results. Team SoloMid came back for revenge against Spacestation Gaming. Closing out its final match against Spacestation Gaming with a clutch ace by “Beaulo” on Clubhouse, Team SoloMid advanced to the grand final. However, dark horse team DarkZero came out on top with a 3-0 sweep. DarkZero also beat out Spacestation Gaming in the semifinals at the beginning of the weekend.

European League

The last to finish their placements, European League ended on August 23. Playing their first best-of-3 format games since Season 1 Stage 1, these teams’ mental spirits were put to the test. G2 Esports, fan favorites of this league, comfortably beat out their competitors until the grand final. BDS Esport, after losing to G2 Esports in the semifinals, rose through the lower bracket to compete again. BDS Esport claimed first place with a close game while G2 Esports took second place. Virtus.pro and Rogue claimed the third and fourth places respectively.

Rainbow Six Siege’s Six August 2020 Major saw some of its best teams compete against each other and it led to great surprises. Season 1 Stage 2 is coming fast, in preparation for the 2020 November Six Major. After these upcoming events, it will be easier to spot the sixteen teams that will make it to the 2021 Six Invitational.
