To support the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Allied Esports and Club 42 teamed up to create the first edition of The Clubhouse. This charity esports tournament, played on Fortnite, will air on April 15 on Twitch. Fortnite World Cup Champion Kyle “Bugha” Giersdorf and streamer Nicholas “NickEh30” Amyoony will be joining this event. Well-known professional baseball players will also complete the roster. Among these players are stars like McKenzie Gore (San Diego Padres), Max Fried (Atlanta Braves), Dominic Smith (New York Mets), Chris Paddock (San Diego Padres) and Jazz Chisholm (Miami Marlins).
Charity Esports Tournament
This charity event will support students all around the country that have difficulty with distance learning. Through the Jackie Robinson Foundation, they can receive the help they need. The COVID-19 situation deeply impacted the way students follow classes. Some students have the environment necessary to adapt but not everyone does.
“It is a privilege to work with Club 42 to assist the Jackie Robinson Foundation as it helps students with their transition to online learning during the COVID-19 crisis.” said Jud Hannigan, CEO of Allied Esports.
In addition, Jud Hannigan points out the importance of esports entertainment to fans at home. Staying at home is important in order to prevent the pandemic from spreading. Esports companies have an important role to play in this by supporting fans. HyperX will donate a hundred gaming headsets to students of cities represented by the baseball players in the tournament.
“Jackie Robinson once said, ‘a life is not important except for in the impact it has on other lives,’ and it is with humble hearts that we honor Jackie’s legacy by making a positive impact through The Clubhouse on Jackie Robinson Day.” said Erin Jones-Wesley, Co-founder & Executive Director of Club 42.
The Clubhouse Tournament
Before the tournament, the results of the warm-up round will impact players’ placements in different squads. Baseball players are participating in this round in order to determine their skill level and create balanced teams. This competition will take the form of a squad tournament with four rounds including a custom scoring system using the number of eliminations, placements, and wins that will select a winning team.
Famous baseball staff members like Robinson Cano (New York Mets), Dave Roberts (Los Angeles Dodgers), Gabe Kapler (San Francisco Giants), Michael Young (former Major Leaguer), Bobby Valentine (former Major League manager) and Aaron Boone (New York Yankees) will represent the tournament’s casting team. Their goal will be to encourage donations from fans and participate in the storytelling of Jackie Robinson.
