The Game Awards 2020 Esports Winners

As 2020 wraps up, The Game Awards is out with 30 total awards and categories ready to nominate the best video games in the year, including six esports awards.

Esports Winners and Categories

The celebration of all things gaming in 2020 culminated at The Game Awards where even esports nominees got what it deserved. The six awards went through different sections of the industry and all culminated tonight.  League of Legends, VALORANT, CS:GO, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Dota 2 saw the most focus across these awards.

Of the games, events, athletes, and more, most of the winners come from the League of Legends esports scene. Heo “ShowMaker” Su, League of Legends, and the League of Legends World Championship 2020, specifically, focused on the game. And although half the esports awards winners at The Game Awards 2020 went to League of Legends, the other three winners are in multiple spaces. G2 Esports, Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere, and Danny “zonic” Sørensen participate in different areas and also won awards.

The Game Awards

As a developing industry, it’s important that games and esports properly commemorate those who contribute the most. From the 2019 Esports Awards and the 2019 Game Awards, much has changed this year. The 2020 Esports Awards celebrated the biggest contributors to competitive gaming just a few weeks ago. Now, with 2020 concluding, fans should be excited for what’s in store next year and what the games and esports industries will bring.
