Travis Scott’s live virtual Fortnite concert breaks records

On April 23, Fortnite’s Travis Scott concert attracted an audience never seen before in an in-game event. Over 12 million people attended Travis Scott’s Astronomical. With the release of the 12.40 update, Fortnite is using collaboration to gather players to the game. Using video games as mediums for real-life events, especially with the COVID-19 situation, is a smart way for a video game publisher to take its game to a whole new level.

Only Fortnite players logged in at the time could be a part of this event. Fortnite developers created a marketing campaign in order to reach as many new fans as possible with this collaboration.

“From April 23-25, blast off into a one of a kind musical journey featuring Travis Scott and the world premiere of a brand new track,” said Epic Games. “Astronomical is an other-worldly experience inspired by Cactus Jack’s creations, built from the ground up in Fortnite,”

Travis Scott, also known as “Cactus Jack”, was excited to bring his new track into Fortnite.

Missed the Concert?

For those who missed the concert or just discovered this event, a statement from the official website is there to offer a solution.

“To make sure everyone has a chance to experience Astronomical, we’re setting up multiple tour dates with showtimes for players around the globe,” said Epic Games. “Jump in to whichever time fits your schedule best, or catch an encore with your friends if they missed it.”

Of course, there are skins and items that also come with the Travis Scott Fortnite concert. This new record is further proof that in-game collaborations will allow games to be in the spotlight for a while. This event also showcases that there can be a social gathering while social distancing. All that’s required for this to happen is to find the right medium like Epic Games did with Fortnite.
