VCT Masters Berlin to Host 15 Teams

Bren Esports dropped out of VCT Masters Berlin today, meaning Riot Games is making changes to how Group B teams will qualify for the next VALORANT round.

This is quite the setback for Bren Esports. Qualifying for the highest tier of VALORANT competitive play is not easy and requires hard work and dedication. However, safety comes first, and the Philippines is considered a high-risk place. Therefore, Bren Esports will not participate in VCT Masters Berlin and only 15 teams compete in a different format.

Bren Esports

Bren Esports made its breakthrough at the VCT Challengers for South-East Asia. It gained both a lot of traction and a ticket to perform at VCT Masters Berlin. However, the SEA team could not get out of the administrative nightmare, even with Riot Games’ help. They have now passed the final deadline without gathering the necessary documents.

Germany’s health restrictions regarding the pandemic are the ones to blame. They have impacted the whole of esports, with games like League of Legends and Rainbow Six Siege having to either change locations or adapting their tournament format. For VALORANT, although Riot Games went with the latter, Bren Esports still got their 175 VCT points for qualifying.

VCT Masters Berlin Teams

In today’s update, VALORANT Esports’ Head of Competitive Operations detailed the changes made to the format. With Bren Esports missing, VCT Masters Group B pivots to a double round-robin. Sentinels, G2 Esports, and F4Q will play against each other two times, with the first and second qualifying for the next round.

The reduction to three teams seemed to make the qualification easier at first but also creates more pressure on these two match days. After the end of the group stage, everything continues to the regular plan. A single elimination bracket environment between eight teams ensues, with only one claiming the title of VCT Masters Berlin Champion.

Here are the teams who will participate in VCT Masters Berlin next week.
